Coconut Milk Shampoo & Conditioner by Organix
I was at Ulta on monday for a haircut and I had recently talked to my grandma about the harsh chemicals in shampoo that are terribly damaging to your scalp and natural oils. In shampoos and conditioners, the ingredients list is by volume, so the first ingredient is what is the biggest amount in that product. (Most shampoo’s first ingredient is water, go figure) Usually the second is SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Commonly SLS is mostly used because it’s a cheap ingredient. You can find it in soaps at the car wash, fabric glue, and even carpet cleaner. But it’s also in all of your soaps, body washes, bubble baths, laundry detergent. Everything that touches our skin and can be absorbed into our skin.
Let’s get back to SLS in shampoo. For some, it’s highly irritating and it completely strips your hair of it’s natural oils. Most people think, “What’s the big deal? I don’t need all the oils in my hair, my hair gets oily anyways!” When it strips your natural oils, your glands think you’re not producing enough oils, so then the oil process goes into overdrive and MASS PRODUCE oil, making your hair even oiler than before.
So Organix is a good company with SULFATE FREE shampoo and conditioner. Now, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t sulfate in some of the other ingredients (because there is) it’s hard to completely strip it of sulfate. I heard a lot of mixed reviews on these products before I tried them. Me, having thick curly hair, was told that this shampoo DESTROYS my type of hair, and it best works on fine/thin hair. But I also read more reviews that pretty much came to the conclusion that it’s very a 50/50 product.
I used it, and of course the scent is amazing. The shampoo had just the right amount of lather, and it didn’t make my hair feel really dry and tangly when I finished shampooing. The majority of my life i’ve always gone back to Pantene, but I hated how it made my hair feel after I was done washing and conditioning my hair. Organix made my hair feel SO nice when I was done. A little bit goes a long way too. I believe I got these for $7.99 each at Ulta, which isn’t bad at all for an organic product. I’m thoroughly impressed and i’ll definitely try their other shampoo/conditioner too.
